Wheatgrass Juice Shots

WOW are there a lot of "Mommy blogs" out there!  I had no idea!  If I tried to read even a significant number of them that are mainly about depression or post-partum depression I'd have little time for anything else.  Here are a few that I've bookmarked for future reading:

Just a quick note for tonight.  My kids are hooked on Smoothie King.  We have one located here in the Waugh Chapel shopping center in Crofton, MD (USA).  I've had a couple of different smoothies and they were both great.  Today for some reason I decided I'd try something they offer, a 1 oz. shot of wheatgrass juice.  Anyone try this before?
Wheatgrass is just young wheat.  A little older than malt, but still the cotyledons of the young plant.  They'd like you to believe that 1 oz. is equivalent to something like 2 lbs. of green, leafy vegetables.  I don't know if I buy that.  The juice is pretty much chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals, enzymes, and vitamins.  It tasted like new raw beans picked right off the plant, or peas, but very, very concentrated.  I definitely needed a chaser.  Bleaugh!  But I felt like such a "healthy" person afterwards!  It was similar to the feeling of superiority I get while shopping in Whole Foods or driving my Prius.  Maybe it will make up for the donut holes I had last night and the Styrofoam container of old pasta I put in the trash because I couldn't stand to wash the moldy goo out of it?

So far I've still been doing pretty well, moodwise, although the kids were really getting to me by the end of the afternoon today.  I had taken them to Smoothie King even though they dumped out the Legos all over the floor at the Veterinary Office (had to get our dog's eye checked, he has an infection) and spilled water from their water cooler all over the floor by dumping out a cup and also holding the tap open so that the water ran out onto the floor.  YES, I was there!  I swear I only turned my back for 15 seconds or so!  Anyway, after that and Smoothie King I wanted/needed a chai (my only one for the day, thank you) and the kids complained about what I was planning to make for dinner (turkey chili, which is VERY good by the way) the entire way out and back.  This amounted to about 40 minutes of constant whining and complaining since the drive-thru Starbucks I'd chosen is way out by the (495) Beltway.  By the time we got home, both of them had been crying, one wanted to know why I was "always so mean to us," and the other kept condemning me, "you making me cry!"  SIGH.  I really wasn't that bad.  I simply was unwilling to make them their own special dinner separate from what I was making for "the family" which at that point was seeming to have become just me and my husband.  Then the ultimate, "I wish DADDY was home [with us instead of you]!"

Luckily for me, I had a Homeowners Association Meeting (I'm on the Board) tonight.  So I was able to escape to the local school for an hour or so.  It is amazing how much the other board members know about what is going on with everyone in the neighborhood!  I never know any of it.  So after getting the latest dirt on the neighborhood I returned and was greeted by children who missed me.  (!)  I ate my chili, which my husband ended up making, with relish (not the condiment).  It turned out my daughter helped him make it, thought it tasted great and ate a whole bowl of it, hour of complaining forgotten.  My son of course did not.  He won't eat anything at actual mealtimes.  But that's another post.

  2. Julia, I so appreciate the link! I'm really glad to know about you and will reciprocate. Very good stuff!! My kids are now 17, 16 and 10, and I have to say that as much as I loved their younger years, I'm glad not to have to go back there. Sooo much work, but of course it all flies by so quickly. Keep documenting it - you'll love to look back on it down the road. :)
